For visitors and locals alike, golf is second only to skiing in popularity in Park City. When the sun comes out and the snow melts, the lure of perfectly clipped grass is impossible to resist. Between Summit and Wasatch counties there are over a dozen public and private courses located within 20 minutes of one another. Most of these are of championship quality and promise some of the best golf you’ll ever play. Because the whole region is surrounded by the rugged Wasatch Mountains, any time you spend on the green will be enhanced by staggering panoramas. Although the majority of courses are located in private developments, most of them offer at least a few public tee times and are worth a telephone call to see what it would take for you play. However, the municipal courses are rated as equal to most of the private courses and the low green fees make them an outright golfing bargain.
Park City’s municipal golf course is located just a few blocks off the heart of the Main Street Historic District. It sits next to Park City Mountain Resort, making it one of the most enviable locations in the world. It is one of Utah’s top-ranked 18-hole courses with a par of 72. Many players have reported that the cool weather resulting from the 6,700 feet of elevation not only makes for more pleasant days but also adds distance to shots. The greens are perfectly groomed and maintained. Tee times can be reserved a full week in advance.
Midway is just 20 minutes from Park City and boasts 3 public courses: Wasatch Mountain State Park Golf Course, Soldier Hollow Golf Course, and Homestead Golf Club & Resort. All three of these sit in the shadow of the breathtaking Mount Timpanogos peak and are 18 holes of spectacular natural beauty. The air is alpine fresh and the silence is broken only by occasional victory yelps from fellow golfers. Wasatch Mountain and Soldier Hollow are municipal courses with unbelievably low green fees, while Homestead is a full-service Resort that includes every conceivable convenience and luxury. Any golfer’s dream getaway would be a couple of nights spent at Homestead while golfing at all three of Midway’s courses.
There are six private golf clubs in the Park City area: Park Meadows Country Club (Equity), Promontory Club (Non-Equity), Glenwild Golf Club & Spa (Non-Equity), Jeremy Ranch Golf Club & Spa (Equity), Talisker Club At Tuhaye (Non-Equity), and Red Ledges Golf Club in Heber (Non-Equity).
